Berkeley's Jazzschool Appoints Lisa Mezzacappa as Executive Director | KQED
"There are people looking for cables, moving amplifiers around, getting vibraphones wheeled in, finding percussion."
"I think jazz should be part of every conversation,"
"We can't run away from new technology,"
"If you're curious about dusting off your guitar, or the keyboard that's been in your garage,"
Lisa Mezzacappa, a Bay Area composer, educator and bassist, is the new executive director of The Jazzschool in Berkeley. The Jazzschool is a nearly thirty-year-old community education institution founded in 1997 by Susan Muscarella and was previously connected to the California Jazz Conservatory. Mezzacappa's first assignment is the fall Youth & Adult Student Performance Series running Dec. 5–16 and featuring nearly 400 students across levels and jazz styles. The series includes several free concerts at 2087 Addison Street and aims to expand community by attracting friends and family who may become new students. Mezzacappa supports exploring technological impacts on jazz and prioritizing student interests.
