"I hope everybody's inspired to join together as a community of artists and speak out against what's going on, and I'mma leave this and say Fuck ICE,"
"We're too powerful of a group to all be in a room at the same time and not make some kind of a statement in our country,"
"You could have done whatever you wanted in your 20s, but instead you chose to take care of me, to put me in all the programs and all the things that would feed who I am today; so mommy I owe you everything,"
Kehlani won two Grammys for 'Folded,' earning Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song, with 'Folded' reaching the Billboard Top 10. The acceptance moments included a public rejection of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, featuring the phrase "Fuck ICE" and an 'ICE out' pin on a sheer black Valdrin Sahiti gown. The pin belonged to the Be Good–ICE Out campaign honoring Americans harmed by ICE and was also worn by artists including Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Olivia Rodrigo, Becky G, Brandi Carlile, Finneas, and Billie Eilish. Kehlani expressed gratitude to their adoptive mother and has a background attending Oakland School for the Arts, transferring to Berkeley High, and performing with Poplyfe on America's Got Talent.
