Andrew Ranken, longtime drummer of The Pogues, died at age 72 after years of ill health and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The Pogues announced his passing on their official Instagram and surviving founding members Jem Finer, James Fearnley, and Spider Stacy issued a statement expressing thanks and condolences. Ranken replaced original drummer John Hasler in 1983 and played on all seven studio albums released between 1984 and 1996. He formed The Vendettas after the 1996 breakup, rejoined the band from 2001 to 2014, and was not part of the 2024 reunion. Ranken also played harmonica and sang occasional lead vocals and was preceded in death by several former bandmates.
