Alabama Shakes released 'Another Life,' their first original material since the 2015 album Sound & Color and their debut single for Island Records. Brittany Howard described the song as reflecting multiple lives, missed chances, goodbyes, and interconnected versions of the self that harmonize over time. The trio—Howard, Heath Fogg, and Zac Cockrell—entered official hiatus in 2018, during which Howard issued solo albums in 2019 and 2023. The band has resumed live activity with its first tour since 2017, scheduled to continue through the end of September. Sound & Color previously ranked No. 138 on The 200 Best Albums of the 2010s.
