Video of Broussard dancing on the stadium big screen was cheered by the crowd in Death Valley. And observers watching from home saluted the 66-year-old musician as well: Kent Broussard, 66, just got a standing ovation at the LSU game. He retired in 2023 and enrolled at LSU with the sole goal of playing the Tuba in the Tiger band. Tonight is his first game."
Kent Broussard, age 66, returned to school after retiring in 2023 to pursue a childhood dream of joining the Golden Band From Tigerland. He first saw LSU in Tiger Stadium at age nine, then spent decades focused on a career and family. Five years ago he began learning the tuba, practiced, trained, enrolled at LSU and successfully auditioned for the marching band. Broussard took the field at halftime during a game against Louisiana Tech for his first official performance, drew cheers from the stadium crowd and a standing ovation online. His wife Cheryl encouraged him to try, and the band director said Broussard earned his spot by excelling on the field and in the stands.
