Weekly poll: did your phone receive the Android 16 update yet?
"The first public beta of Android 16 came out in January 2025, then the stable version started rolling out to Pixel phones in June. Other manufacturers released OS updates for their phones too, some faster than others and it varied from model to model too (flagships got priority). It's almost time to go up to the next version - Google has officially confirmed that the first Android 17 beta will be out soon."
"But let's rewind a bit - did your phone get Android 16? We're asking because Google shared an Android version distribution chart a couple of weeks ago and it revealed that most devices are running Android 15, 14 or 13. Android 16, meanwhile, had less than an 8% share. In fact, there are more Android 10 devices out there than there are Android 16 devices. Or there were, anyway. Note that the data below is from December 1, 2025."
"Since June of 2025, the EU has mandated that manufacturers offer software updates for at least 5 years after the end-of-sale date. That means security updates, not necessarily new OS versions, but Android makers do offer more OS updates for their new phones than ever before. It's still a slow process, though, as you can see in the chart above."
Android 16's first public beta released in January 2025, with the stable version beginning Pixel rollouts in June 2025. OEMs released updates model-by-model, prioritizing flagships and varying in speed. Google distribution data from December 1, 2025 shows most devices running Android 15, 14 or 13, while Android 16 held under 8% share; Android 10 devices outnumbered Android 16 devices. Since June 2025 the EU requires manufacturers to provide at least five years of security updates after end-of-sale; manufacturers are offering more OS updates than before but rollouts remain slow. The text asks whether phones received Android 16 and which version they currently run.
