The 13 biggest announcements at Google I/O 2026
Google’s I/O 2026 keynote announced multiple AI updates across Google apps and models. Gemini 3.5 Flash launches as the default model for the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search, with Gemini 3.5 Pro planned for next month. The new model is positioned as significantly faster and better at agentic tasks, including improved agentic coding, and it generates richer, more interactive web UIs and graphics. Google also claims improved guardrails to reduce harmful outputs and avoid incorrectly flagging safe queries. Google additionally introduced a redesigned Gemini app experience called “neural expressive,” with new animations, color, font, and haptic feedback rolling out May 19. A new Gemini Omni model family was also announced, starting with Omni Flash.
