Samsung has discontinued its Galaxy Z TriFold double-folding smartphone in Korea after only three months on the market. Despite this short lifespan, the company continues pursuing the form factor with a successor, the TriFold 2, expected in mid-2027. This next-generation model will be significantly thinner and lighter than the original, measuring only slightly thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold7 at approximately 8.9mm when folded, compared to the original TriFold's 12.9mm thickness. Additionally, Samsung is developing its first sliding-screen smartphone prototype, tentatively named Galaxy Z Slide, with a planned release in late 2027 or early 2028, pending successful development.
"Samsung has just discontinued the Galaxy Z TriFold, its first double-folding smartphone, in Korea, after a very short three-month run. However, the company is apparently not done with the form factor entirely."
"It will be thinner and lighter than the original TriFold. In fact, the TriFold 2 is said to be only very slightly thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold7, which is 8.9mm thick when folded. For reference, note that the TriFold is 12.9mm thick when folded, so this will be a very noticeable change."
"Samsung is also working on the prototype of its first-ever sliding-screen smartphone, which will most likely end up being called Galaxy Z Slide if it ever does become an actual product. This one is currently tentatively scheduled to arrive in late 2027 or early 2028, if everything goes well."
