An electronics store in Shenzhen's Huaqiangbei market modified an iPhone Air to include a physical SIM slot beside the USB-C port. The team replaced the original Taptic Engine vibration motor with a much smaller unit to save space while retaining basic haptic feedback. The freed space allowed installation of a SIM card reader next to the physical slot, making the device fully functional with a physical SIM. Images show the phone running a China Telecom SIM and making a call. The modified phone can access 5G mobile data and retained its IP68 ingress protection rating.
