iPhone 17e to get a camera upgrade
"According to a new research note by analyst Jeff Pu, Apple's upcoming iPhone 17e will come with a camera upgrade. Specifically, it will get the same 18MP selfie camera as the rest of the iPhone 17 family. This was introduced with the iPhone 17 series, so it's both great and rather surprising to see Apple extending it to the cheapest model in the lineup so quickly - it's not often the company does something like this."
"The new camera uses a square sensor, which lets you take vertical or horizontal selfies without needing to move the phone. Pu says the iPhone 17e will arrive "in mid-1Q26", which means February. The new selfie camera will be one of the main upgrades the iPhone 17e will bring to the table compared to its predecessor, the other being the A19 chip, which is also used by the iPhone 17."
The iPhone 17e will adopt the 18MP selfie camera used across the iPhone 17 lineup. The selfie camera employs a square sensor that allows vertical or horizontal framing without rotating the phone. The model is expected to arrive in mid-1Q26, interpreted as February 2026. The iPhone 17e will also include the A19 chip shared with the iPhone 17. The 18MP selfie upgrade and the A19 processor are identified as the main improvements over the previous 16e model. Extending a higher-end camera to the entry-level model is an uncommon move for Apple.
