Kubernetes, while crucial to the cloud-native ecosystem, has faced challenges regarding usability on private hardware. Recognizing this, the SIG-UI group has developed Headlamp, an improved user interface aimed to streamline the Kubernetes experience for both beginners and seasoned professionals. Announced at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2025, Headlamp is designed for quick deployments and easy management of Kubernetes environments, eliminating the need for extensive YAML and kubectl knowledge. The project originates from Microsoft's Kinvolk team, focusing on offering an accessible, out-of-the-box experience.
As important as Kubernetes is to the modern cloud-native stack, it's still not easy to use on your own hardware.
The Kubernetes user interface special interest group, SIG-UI, has been working on a solution with its projects Dashboard and Headlamp.
