Firefox lets you disable all AI-powered features
"After Google and Microsoft added AI-powered features to their Chrome and Edge browsers, Firefox was quick to follow and offered a handful of AI features to its users. Those include an AI tool for tab grouping, AI-powered translation and even quick access to an AI chatbot. However, not everyone is on board with the new AI push from companies, and a lot of users expressed their dissatisfaction with Mozilla's decision to shove yet another AI functionality down users' throats."
"That's why Firefox is adding an AI kill switch with the upcoming February 24 update. Mozilla's CEO, Enzor-DeMeo, said that choice matters, and he believes the AI features added to Firefox, as well as those coming in the near future, are useful, and users can trust Mozilla with the collected data. Still, a toggle to turn off all AI features is on the way."
Firefox introduced several AI features, including a tab-grouping tool, AI-powered translation, and quick access to an AI chatbot. Many users reacted negatively, citing privacy concerns and resistance to additional AI functionality. In response, Firefox will include an AI kill switch in the February 24 update to allow users to turn off all AI features. Mozilla's CEO, Enzor-DeMeo, emphasized that choice matters and expressed confidence in the usefulness of current and forthcoming AI tools and the handling of collected data. The toggle provides an opt-out that preserves user control and differentiates Mozilla from other tech companies.
