Android 16 is here, but the cool stuff is coming later
Briefly

Google has clarified that foldables like the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will lack on-device windowing, relying instead on a connected display feature. Device manufacturers will determine support for these options. Alongside the Android 16 update, Google shifts to a spring release schedule for major updates and intends to introduce smaller updates later in the year. The Pixel Drop adds minor enhancements, notably Pixel VIPs, facilitating easier access to favorite contacts, while features like Expressive Captions will be expanded to several countries without requiring a major system update.
Phones and foldables will only have the connected display option for the desktop interface.
Google says it intends to do a major release in late spring, with a smaller update for APIs and features at the end of the year.
The only really notable change in the Pixel Drop is the addition of Pixel VIPs, which is an enhancement of the traditional favorite contacts.
Expressive Captions are coming to the UK, Australia, and Canada, which is nice but should not require a system update.
