"An unbeaten 6-0 record sees bantamweight Michelle Montague land in the octagon at UFC Perth this weekend. A staple of the women's division in the PFL and Bellator before that, Montague faces Brazilian Luana Carolina in her UFC debut on Saturday, on a card headlined by Carlos Ulberg and Dominick Reyes. "Michelle Montague is a former IMMAF Lightweight World Champion, a two-time Kiwi Freestyle Wrestling Commonwealth Games competitor, and a former member of the Waikato Women's Rugby Team. She's also a main training partner of UFC bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison. She only has two career losses, both as an amateur to Sabrinna de Sousa, so no shame there. Since turning pro, she's finished all six of her fights by RNC, mostly in PFL."
"Montague will be making the move down to 135 for the first time in her career, which could either make or break her going forward. Her résumé suggests she's a one-dimensional fighter, but while her striking isn't elite, she's far from a fish out of water. What she does well is throw in volume and combine her hands and feet effectively. She uses blitzes, attacks both sides, and mixes up her entries."
Michelle Montague enters UFC Perth with a 6-0 pro record and six submission victories. She competed in PFL and Bellator and faces Brazilian Luana Carolina in her UFC debut. Montague stands five-foot-nine, fights at 135 lbs, is 31 years old, fights out of Matamata, Waikato, and trains at American Top Team. She is a former IMMAF Lightweight World Champion, two-time Kiwi freestyle wrestling Commonwealth Games competitor, and former Waikato women's rugby team member. She trains regularly with Kayla Harrison. Montague moves down to bantamweight for the first time; her strengths are volume striking, varied entries, effective leg shots and dominant back chokes, while wrestling entry timing and speed present areas for improvement.
