"Gantt stayed glued to him, hitting two mat returns and steadily improving position. He eventually took Minev's back, secured both hooks, and started landing heavy punches and elbows, forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight."
Thomas Gantt and Artur Minev met on the UFC Vegas 117 preliminary card with both fighters undefeated. Gantt entered the UFC through Dana White’s Contender Series, while Minev moved straight to the promotion. In the first round, Gantt shot early and repeatedly pressured for takedowns, briefly securing them and forcing Minev to stay active on defense. Minev reversed in the clinch but failed to fully separate, allowing Gantt to regain control and continue chaining attempts. A short clinch combination by Minev was followed by a low shot from Gantt that caused a reset. In round two, Gantt closed distance quickly, landed body knees, then timed a level change to secure a takedown. Minev worked back up, but Gantt stayed attached, improved position, took the back, secured both hooks, and delivered heavy punches and elbows until the referee stopped the fight at 2:51.
