Ivan Erslan faced George Tokkos in a light heavyweight bout at UFC Vegas 117. Tokkos needed to take the fight to the mat, but Erslan was uncomfortable with Tokkos’ constant pressure on the feet. Erslan may have won the first round, then found his rhythm in the second. Tokkos appeared slow and tired, with takedown attempts that were telegraphed. Erslan countered effectively in close range, and when the fight went to the ground, he controlled the position and timing, landing deliberate ground strikes. In the third round, Tokkos offered little resistance and Erslan punished him repeatedly in close quarters. The judges awarded Erslan a unanimous 29-28 decision.
