You Su-young and Xiao Long fought three competitive rounds at UFC Shanghai. You controlled the center early with kicks and clinches while Xiao Long used feints, footwork and outside striking. The second round featured more striking exchanges, a blocked head kick from Long, and a late surge by Xiao Long with a right hand and several strikes. Round three included heavy clinching and a flurry of elbows from Long that landed repeatedly. The judges awarded a unanimous decision to You, likely reflecting his stronger first-half performance despite Long finishing strongly and receiving strong crowd support.
Bantamweights You Su-young and Xiao Long were the second fight in on Saturday's UFC Shanghai prelims, which kicked off bring and early (3AM ET!) for fight fans in North America. South Korea's You was a Road to UFC winner from Season 3, while China's Long had gone 1-1 in the UFC after winning his way into the promotion as part of Dana White's Contender Series in 2024. A ONE Championship veteran, Long was coming off a third-round finish of Quang Le.
The crowd was really behind Xiao Long, the local fave, chanting his name and erupting any time he landed. Long was on the defensive now, after arguably leading the first half of the fight. Long then began to deliver elbow after elbow in a wild standing exchange, with no fewer than 15 or even 20 elbows thrown in a sequence that made you wish Paul Felder was on hand to witness it!
