UFC Shanghai: Rong Zhu Decisions Austin Hubbard

Rongzhu returned at UFC Shanghai and engaged Austin Hubbard in a competitive lightweight bout. Hubbard pressed early with combinations, a head kick and landed an uppercut, securing a late first-round takedown. Rongzhu increased pressure with his right hand and frequently landed significant strikes while Hubbard repeatedly pursued takedowns. Hubbard completed multiple takedowns but displayed low striking output on the feet and repeatedly failed to maintain control. Rongzhu appeared fresher when standing, landing combinations and two big right hands in the third round. Hubbard began to show signs of fatigue as his takedown effectiveness diminished late in the fight.
Hubbard started the fight out pressing forward with a two punch combination followed by a head kick. Rongzhu circled away to the center of the cage, but ate a nice uppercut from Hubbard on the inside. Starting to find a home for his right hand, Rongzhu was now on the aggressive. Hubbard shot in for a takedown with a minute left in the round, dragging Rongzhu to the floor. Hubbard controlled Rongzhu against the fence briefly, until the fighters exchanged blows at the bell.
The second started fast as Rongzhu marched forward looking to find a home for a right hand. Telegraphing the shot, Hubbard ducked under a punch and landed his second takedown of the fight. Hubbard was able to land each of his takedowns with ease, but Rongzhu scrambled to his feet moments later. When standing, Rongzhu seemed to be the fresher fighter landing a three punch combination. Hubbard showed very low output on the feet as the total strikes of Rongzhu continued to climb.
In the third round, Rongzhu found a home for two big right hands early. Hubbard shot in for a takedown but could not grab ahold of his opponent. A straight right hand connected clean for Rongzhu in the middle of the cage as both fighter traded blows. Midway through the round Hubbard was hit with a right hand and immediately attempted a takedown, but was unsuccessful again. With a minute left Hubbard seemed to be tiring as his takedowns were no longer work
