Michel Pereira entered the bout as a popular Brazilian middleweight with previous ties to Asia through Road FC and had recently suffered back-to-back losses ending an eight-fight win streak. Kyle Daukaus returned to the UFC after a successful run in Cage Fury FC. The fighters touched gloves to begin the preliminary middleweight contest, with Pereira circling and initiating strikes including a body kick. Daukaus then landed a decisive right hand that dropped Pereira, followed by additional strikes and elbows on the mat. The referee stopped the fight at 0:43 of round one, awarding Daukaus a knockout victory.
If there was a question to be asked about the UFC's Fight Night event in Shanghai, China on Saturday, it was perhaps just 'what the heck are Michel Pereira and Kyle Daukaus doing on the UFC Shanghai prelims?' Brazil's Pereira has been once of the company's most consistent entertainers, and while he has ties to Asia, that was primarily in his run with South Korea's Road FC.
He did soon enough, exploding forward and ripping a kick to the body to cap off a combination. Moments later, however, it was Daukaus doing the damage, dropping Michel Pereira with a right hand! Pereira nearly folded over backwards, and while he tried to hang on, it wasn't happening. Daukaus was all over him, dropping more blows on the fallen Pereira. Smashing elbows followed, and the ref waved things off.
