At UFC Shanghai, 25-year-old prospect Lone'er Kavanagh entered 9-0 aiming to crack the flyweight top 15 against veteran #15 Charles Johnson. Kavanagh dominated early with fast kicks, a left hook to the eye, and a strong uppercut, jumping out to a clear first-round advantage. The second round featured wrestling exchanges, guillotine attempts, and a slam, but Kavanagh showed signs of fatigue. Johnson capitalized as he landed a clean right hook that put Kavanagh down and finished with follow-up shots. The KO marks a significant win for Johnson and should improve his ranking trajectory.
Kavanagh started with an low leg kick early that got Johnson's attention. Johnson seemed considerably bigger in the cage but the lightning fast kicks of Kavanagh were finding a home. Midway through the round, Johnson entered the clinch but was pushed off by Kavanagh seconds later. The speed of Kavanagh was very impressive
The second round saw Johnson enter in on a single leg takedown in the first minute, but was countered with a guillotine attempt that allowed Kavanagh to get back to the feet.
