Okolie fails doping test before Yoka fight
"Before anyone starts imagining the worst, following my bicep injury last year, I sustained an elbow injury on the same arm during this camp. I had a treatment on it and now we are here. I truly hope sense prevails."
"I will of course be fully co-operating with all relevant authorities and I'm confident any investigation will clear my name."
Lawrence Okolie tested positive for a banned substance ahead of his scheduled heavyweight fight against Tony Yoka in Paris. The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association informed the fight promoter, Queensberry, of the adverse finding. Okolie stated that the failed test resulted from treatment for an elbow injury sustained during training. He expressed hope that 'sense prevails' and emphasized his willingness to cooperate with authorities, confident that an investigation will clear his name. Okolie is undefeated in three heavyweight fights and previously held world titles at cruiserweight and bridgerweight.
