Muin Gafurov Reveals Reason He Tapped Out to Jakub Wiklacz
""I heard the bell, brother," Gafurov said. "I was thinking, 'Why are you not [separating]?'""
""He first said he was good," Dvalishvili said. "And then when he heard the bell, he tap. It's so unfortunate. Congratulations to Jakub. I don't have nothing against him, he's a good fighter. But my brother Muin never taps to a choke. It's so unfortunate.""
Muin Gafurov missed weight by five pounds for his bantamweight bout against Jakub Wiklacz at UFC Fight Night 266 at the Apex in Las Vegas. Gafurov controlled portions of the first and appeared to edge the third, while Wiklacz rebounded strongly in the second. With one second remaining in round three, Wiklacz secured a mounted guillotine and Gafurov tapped. Referee Chris Tognoni confirmed the tap occurred before the final bell. Gafurov told teammate Merab Dvalishvili he believed he had heard the bell and tapped because he expected separation. Dvalishvili called the ending unfortunate and noted Gafurov rarely taps to chokes.
