Sutherland initiated the fight with aggressive leg kicks and takedown attempts, successfully controlling Tuivasa on the ground. Despite Tuivasa's attempts to escape and threaten with submissions, Sutherland maintained top position and landed effective strikes. In the second round, Sutherland continued his strategy, absorbing some strikes but completing another takedown. Tuivasa, needing to catch up, fought aggressively in the third round but struggled against Sutherland's composure and control, ultimately leading to a referee stand-up that allowed Tuivasa to score briefly before the fight concluded.
