Josh Hokit won on the Contender Series and immediately provoked controversy with comments about the UFC heavyweight division. He said he was ready to fight on short notice and complained that the UFC gave a Russian fighter only days' notice, questioning whether a Russian is better than an American. Hokit labeled many heavyweights as overweight and boring, suggested English fluency should be a UFC criterion, and contrasted his move from the NFL to MMA as leaving a "liberal, snowflake" environment for a "real man's" sport. The remarks risk backlash despite the UFC's general tolerance of fighters' free-speech comments.
gave that Russian guy six days notice. Is a Russian better than an American? That's how I look at it. So I'm ready to go five days notice. I'm ready to fight next week.
a lot of them are overweight fat guys. Their fights are boring, they don't even speak English. I feel like that should be a criteria. You speak English, then you could be in the UFC. That's just how I would run it.
I left the liberal, snowflake NFL to do a real man's sport in a real man's promotion.
