Jon Jones has severe arthritis in his left hip and already qualifies for a hip replacement. The condition caused such pain during his last training camp that he went to bed in severe discomfort. Jones prioritizes preserving his hips to play with his three-year-old son and says any return to fight would require more than a typical payday. Jones identifies a White House event as the type of reward that could justify enduring the pain. The UFC is aware of the arthritis. Dana White has been reluctant to book Jones because of past cancellations, failed drug tests, and scandals.
