Javier Reyes: Fighting in Mexico 'feels just like home'
"I just want to be different. I just want that the crowd notices me and they realize that a Colombian fighter is doing very different things in order to win the championship."
"Fighting here in Mexico is almost like fighting in Colombia for me. It's almost my home. My training partners are from Mexico, a lot of my friends are from Mexico. So I feel just like home."
"I just feel confident I can finish the fight in the first round."
Javier Reyes secured a first-round TKO victory over Douglas Silva de Andrade in a featherweight matchup at UFC Mexico in Mexico City. Despite being dropped early due to keeping his hands low, Reyes recovered and finished the fight with ground-and-pound with seconds remaining in the opening round. The 32-year-old Colombian fighter, who earned his UFC contract through Dana White's Contender Series, has finished 19 of his 23 career wins. Reyes expressed his desire to be recognized as a different type of fighter and crowd favorite. He feels comfortable fighting in Mexico, as many of his training partners and friends are Mexican, making the experience similar to fighting in his home country of Colombia.
