"I'm going to train very hard, and I'm going to go into the UFC, and I'm going to be a UFC fighter. To leave a mark, to be here, to mean something in the UFC. I have a purpose in life, I have goals, and I work very hard for them. So that's my life. I came here with a purpose. I want to be right up there."
Manoel Sousa, a lightweight with a 13-1 record and past experience in Bellator and PFL, finished Cristian Pérez in the third round at Dana White's Contender Series Week 3 in Las Vegas to secure a UFC contract. Sousa said he expected a striking war but was surprised when Pérez used jiu-jitsu and repeatedly shot for takedowns; Sousa insisted he would get back up and finish the fight by knockout. Sousa left home to train in São Paulo with the goal of becoming a UFC fighter, leaving a mark and pursuing clear purpose and goals. Five winners earned contracts in Week 3.
