Despite split with Fighting Nerds, Carlos Prates has no hard feelings for Mauricio Ruffy
Mauricio Ruffy rose to UFC success with the Fighting Nerds team in São Paulo, coached by Pablo Sucupira. After his first UFC loss to Benoit St. Denis, Ruffy briefly left the team and later trained with City Kickboxing in New Zealand for a fight against Rafael Fiziev, which he won by knockout in January. Ruffy has now officially parted ways with Fighting Nerds. Carlos Prates says he has no hard feelings and believes Ruffy is smart, is doing well, and will defeat Michael Chandler on June 14 at UFC White House. Sucupira states the team’s doors remain open for Ruffy, including for a short training camp.
"“He has his own team,” Prates said on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” “He's really smart and intelligent. I'm sure he is doing a really good job. I think he's gonna win against Chandler, I'm really excited to watch the fight... For me, no [hard feelings].”"
"Ruffy briefly parted ways with the team following his first UFC loss against Benoit St. Denis last year. Ruffy joined City Kickboxing in New Zealand for his last fight against Rafael Fiziev, whom he knocked out this past January. Ruffy has since officially parted ways with the Fighting Nerds team."
"Ruffy had a falling out with Silva towards the end of last year. Silva, who used to consider Ruffy one of his best friends and mentors, officially confirmed that they are not friends any longer. However, the rest of the team, including the coaches, have no hard feelings for Ruffy."
"Ruffy is scheduled to fight Michael Chandler at UFC White House on June 14. Prates believes Ruffy will defeat Chandler and eagerly awaits the fight. Sucupira says the doors at Fighting Nerds will always be open for Ruffy, even if he wants to do just a short camp."
