Covington Irked by White House Snub, Agrees to Fight Burns-Malott Winner
"I really wanted it [to be on the Freedom 250 card]. I asked for anybody. I said I'd fight anybody on God's green earth on the White House card just to get that opportunity to fight in front of my hero, Donald Trump, and all the great politicians that I'm friends with up in D.C."
"They've just had me sitting around for the last 14 months doing nothing, twiddling my thumbs. They haven't offered me one f*cking fight. They're supposed to be offering me three fights a year by contractual law, so I'm not trying to get into a suing match or a pissing match, but it's just not fair to me."
Colby Covington expressed disappointment at being left off the Freedom 250 card, the first professional sporting event held at the White House in June. Despite cultivating a MAGA-focused public persona and having met with President Trump previously, Covington was not included in the event's lineup. He stated he offered to fight anyone to compete on the card in front of Trump and other politicians he considers friends. The UFC informed him they only wanted him to fight the winner of a Malott-Burns matchup, which he accepted. Covington also voiced frustration about his lack of activity, claiming he has been inactive for 14 months without receiving fight offers, despite his contract stipulating three fights annually.
