Captain Mike Tabak has been promoted to police chief of San Carlos, starting immediately after Mark Myers's promotion to assistant sheriff on January 16. Tabak brings approximately 20 years of experience from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, including previous work as a deputy in San Carlos. San Carlos contracts with the sheriff's office for police services. Tabak expressed confidence in his ability to serve the community and make positive strides in policing that reflect local values. Mayor Pranita Venkatesh welcomed the appointment and emphasized strengthening the partnership with the sheriff's office. The promotion follows recent concerns about communication gaps regarding crimes in the community.
