San Francisco's Montgomery St. Immigration Court to shutter by May 1
""I still anticipate that a lot of people are going to go to Montgomery by mistake and then miss their hearing at Sansome Street," Atkinson said."
""It's just really difficult for someone to understand when their next hearing is, where their next hearing is going to be, and what they need to do to prepare for the next hearing, especially with the changes happening.""
The Montgomery Street Immigration Court in San Francisco will close by May, ahead of the previously announced timeline. The Executive Office for Immigration Review stated the closure is cost-effective. Most cases will be transferred to the Concord court, while some will go to the remaining court at 630 Sansome St. The San Francisco courts are operating with significantly reduced capacity, having only two judges left. Legal resources are being provided to help immigrants navigate the changes and keep track of their court dates.
