Sailor Moon, Pokemon GO, and lots of door-knocking: Natalie Gee on the campaign trail
The June 2 special election for District 4 supervisor will determine who serves Supervisor Joel Engardio’s remaining term until January, but it will not end the campaign. All five candidates have filed paperwork for the November general election, and frontrunners Natalie Gee and Alan Wong have already formed fundraising committees. Gee’s day includes donation calls, door knocking, and frequent social media video production. Her campaign raised $375,000 as of May 18, with labor unions adding $385,000. Wong raised $334,000 and benefits from $881,000 in PAC funding backed by Mayor Daniel Lurie’s wealthy allies, including a major Trump donor. The June contest will signal each candidate’s strength heading into November.
"Like most days, Gee spent a few hours filming and editing videos for social media - a lot of them: Gee has posted at least one Instagram Reel a day in recent weeks. Her Instagram page is filled with pink and purple, her campaign theme color. She's made cutesy videos, like one where she's holding a Sailor Moon themed umbrella with girly-pop dazzling transition effects."
