The City Council of Mountain View has unanimously approved a 7-story commercial building at The Village at San Antonio Center, overcoming previous pandemic-induced delays. This decision represents a pivotal step in implementing the ambitious redevelopment of the western portion of the San Antonio Center. This development, which benefits from a land deal allowing significant density increases in exchange for financing a new school, raises concerns about ensuring the community fully benefits from such arrangements. Merlone Geier will develop the site, having previously secured development rights from the local school district.
"I think the project has great merit, and I will be supporting it," said Council member Lucas Ramirez - a sentiment shared by the rest of the council at the May 27 meeting.
The biggest taker was Merlone Geier, a real estate company that has spent more than a decade redeveloping the San Antonio Center into a major commercial hub.
