Mayor Lurie's car purportedly attacked in Tenderloin, police bodyguard left bleeding
"One unidentified police officer, who was part of Lurie's security team and was in the black Rivian used to ferry Lurie around the city alongside the mayor and his driver, was left bleeding from the back of his head. He panted as he gave a statement to fellow police officers who responded to the scene, which was witnessed by Mission Local."
"The officer said that three people blocked the car shortly prior to the attack, and that Lurie "hopped out" to ask them to move. They began to "comply," the officer told his fellow cops, but, at some point, one man began "talking gibberish.""
"The officer held onto the man's upper body and then "fell back" with the man on top of him, and hit his head on the pavement as he fell. Lurie's driver, also a police officer, was preoccupied with another man, though he did not appear injured."
Mayor Daniel Lurie's security detail was attacked Thursday evening near the Tenderloin neighborhood. A police officer in Lurie's black Rivian was struck in the head after intervening when three people blocked the vehicle. The mayor exited to ask them to move, and they initially complied. However, one man began acting erratically, speaking incoherently. When the officer asked him to move, the man attacked, causing the officer to fall backward and hit his head on the pavement. Lurie's driver engaged with a second man. Two individuals were arrested at the scene, with police surrounding them as the mayor watched from nearby.
