He put a Skee-Ball machine in his SF home. 16 years later, he has an empire.
"The whole arcade universe that I entered started when I joined the competitive Skee-Ball league back in '08 and bought a machine on eBay to practice for said league and then stuffed it into my Bernal Heights apartment. I had to crawl over it to get into my bedroom."
"Since then, Mucha has gone on to win three national championship titles in Skee-Ball, and the last world championship in 2021, with an average rolling score of 390. That equates to hitting the 50-point hole around 85% of the time - pros only aim for the 100s if they're behind, or you're just sort of a maverick."
Joey 'The Cat' Mucha, the current world Skee-Ball champion, has opened Mission Arcade in San Francisco's Mission District. The venue features five Skee-Ball Model S machines as its centerpiece, alongside classic arcade games like Galaga and Donkey Kong, a full bar with cocktails created by Cavañá bartender Sam Diaz, and a kitchen led by culinary veteran Jessica Sullivan. Mucha's 18-year obsession with Skee-Ball began in 2008 when he joined a competitive league and purchased a machine for practice. He has won three national championship titles and the 2021 world championship with an average rolling score of 390, hitting the 50-point hole approximately 85% of the time. The arcade opened to the public for the first time following a high-stakes tournament among service industry workers.
