Menlo Park residents are mobilizing against city plans to redevelop three downtown parking lots into public housing. The group Save Downtown Menlo will begin collecting signatures for a ballot initiative aimed at stopping this redevelopment. They have organized a campaign committee and are optimistic about gathering the required 2,000 signatures from registered voters in Menlo Park. This initiative follows a lawsuit filed against the city's plans, raising concerns about the interests of local property owners. The city council will also discuss this lawsuit and review development proposals for the parking lots.
"We're confident that we'll get the needed signatures, so we're looking ahead," said proponent Alex Beltramo, expressing optimism about the initiative's success.
On May 15, Save Downtown Menlo sent the city a notice of intent for a ballot measure, requiring over 2,000 valid signatures from Menlo Park residents to qualify.
