First homes for HMB farmworkers arrive 2 years after mass shootings exposed poor conditions
Briefly

After two years since the Half Moon Bay mass shootings, construction has begun on Stone Pine Cove, a new community aimed at providing improved housing for local farmworkers. The first housing units arrived on site, representing progress after uncovering the poor living conditions that contributed to the tragedy. Project leaders emphasize the speed and budget efficiency of the construction, which comes as a relief to advocates like former Mayor Joaquin Jimenez, who has long fought for this project as part of a vision to improve housing for farmworkers.
"It's been a very emotional day. It's been great, it was wonderful to see them come on site," said Matthew Estes, senior project manager for Capital Program Management.
"A lot of hard work, heartbreak, a lot of push back, a lot of people telling me that I was crazy to think about housing in Half Moon Bay," said former Mayor Joaquin Jimenez.
