Day 32 of the 16th St. Plaza cleanup: 'It's like the Third World.'
Briefly

The Mission Street in San Francisco was lively with vendors selling various goods, yet the presence of drug use and homelessness remains troubling. Local resident Monty Scott expressed frustration over the lack of improvement in the area despite police efforts to manage street vending and control drug-related activities. He noted that after police cleanups, the same issues quickly return, indicating that short-term solutions do not address the deeper challenges faced by the community. Meanwhile, some side streets appeared minimally active, reflecting ongoing struggles with public safety and substance abuse.
"I walk down the street and see people shooting up, people smoking crack," he said. "I mean, it's like Third World."
"I haven't seen a change," Scott said. "The police sweep in and clear the vendors, but two hours later it's the same thing."
