Young girl dies in hospital after getting into difficulty while swimming in Co Tipperary

A 12-year-old girl died after having difficulty swimming in the River Suir at Newcastle, Co Tipperary. The incident occurred around 4.20pm on Friday while the girl was with friends. Gardaí and emergency services, including the National Ambulance Service and Fire Service's Swift Water Rescue Team, responded to the scene. The girl was found unresponsive and airlifted to Cork University Hospital in serious condition, but later died. A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court, according to a Garda spokesperson.
