"Caution Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) urged people to drive with care over the weekend given potentially challenging driving conditions. There are concerns that the combination of waterlogged roads from recent rainfall could prove hazardous when combined with colder temperatures. Motorists have been warned to expect frost, ice, sleet and possibly snow over the next 72 hours, with the possibility of travel disruption."
"The worst of the cold snap is expected late on Friday and into Saturday morning with temperatures potentially dropping to as low as -5C. Those planning getaways for St Valentine's Day have been urged to travel with caution. Met Éireann's Michelle Dillon said there would be a significant drop in overnight temperatures compared with the milder weather of recent weeks."
Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow low temperature and ice alert for the entire country as Arctic and Scandinavian air brings a sudden cold snap. Atlantic fronts that produced near-record rainfall and milder temperatures will be replaced by colder northerly air. The Yellow ice alert runs from 9pm Friday to 10am Saturday, with further alerts possible next week. A Status Yellow rainfall warning affects Dublin and Wicklow overnight. Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority warned motorists to expect frost, ice, sleet and possible snow and to drive with care. Homeless support charities are increasing emergency shelter capacity ahead of the cold.
