The White Sage fire and Bravo Dragon fire have burned over 45,000 acres collectively. Evacuations were ordered due to health risks, including the release of chlorine gas from the burning water treatment plant. The Bravo Dragon fire was initially a controlled burn but shifted to suppression as it rapidly expanded.
The Grand Canyon Lodge, the only lodging inside the park at the North Rim, was consumed by the flames, along with a visitor center and employee housing.
Two wildfires, the White Sage fire and the Bravo Dragon fire, have burned over 45,000 acres near the North Rim, forcing evacuations in the area.
