Wildfire destroys a historic Grand Canyon lodge and other structures
Briefly

A fast-moving wildfire destroyed the Grand Canyon Lodge and many other structures at the North Rim, prompting officials to close the area for the season. The lodge was consumed alongside historic cabins and other facilities, such as the visitor center and employee housing. The Dragon Bravo Fire, initially managed as a controlled burn, expanded rapidly due to adverse weather conditions. No injuries were reported, but evacuations occurred for firefighters, hikers, and other personnel due to fire and potential exposure to chlorine gas from the destroyed treatment plant.
The Grand Canyon Lodge, the only lodging inside the park at the North Rim, was consumed by the flames, along with dozens of other structures.
Two wildfires are burning at or near the North Rim, called the White Sage Fire and the Dragon Bravo Fire, with the latter impacting several important buildings.
Hot temperatures, low humidity, and wind caused the Dragon Bravo Fire to grow rapidly to 7.8 square miles, shifting management from controlled burn to suppression.
The North Rim was evacuated last Thursday due to wildfire risks, and will remain closed for the rest of the season due to the destruction.
