"The board has said it hopes to land a new leader by April, and the first step is to find a search firm to helm the process. This week the district is expected to post a request for proposals, following approval at tonight's meeting. The RFP lays out the work the firm will carry out and the board's intended timeline."
"Once hired, the firm will conduct a national search for potential candidates, offering opportunities for families, students, staff, teachers, and community groups to weigh in on what they'd like to see in a superintendent. The firm will put together a leadership profile with the qualities prioritized by the board and those that come up through the community engagement process. The RFP puts an emphasis on firms with success in placing candidates from diverse backgrounds,"
Oakland Unified School District aims to hire a permanent superintendent by April and has initiated an expedited search. The board plans to post a request for proposals on Aug. 29, with proposals due Sept. 22 and a firm selection expected by Sept. 30 so work can begin in October. The chosen search firm will run a national search, solicit input from families, students, staff, teachers, and community groups, and produce a leadership profile reflecting board and community priorities. The RFP emphasizes firms with success placing diverse candidates and includes a contingency to re-run a search if a hire departs within a year. Interim superintendent Denise Saddler will remain through June 30, 2026 and has not announced whether she will apply.
