"Well, it turns out the White House does not see it exactly in the same way. Karoline Leavitt, Trump's press secretary, claimed last night that the working group was actually established for the purpose of, erm, technical talks on the acquisition of Greenland, prompting an swift denial from Denmark's foreign minister. Responding to Danish broadcaster TV2, Lars Lkke Rasmussen reiterated Denmark's red lines on territory, and hinted that if the US comes to the table with that mindset, it will be a very, very short series of meetings."

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described the working group as intended for technical talks on a potential acquisition of Greenland. Denmark's foreign minister issued a swift denial, restated territorial red lines, and warned such meetings would be short if acquisition-minded proposals were raised. A US parliamentary delegation is visiting Copenhagen to meet Danish and Greenlandic officials. Lithuanian authorities attributed a 2024 arson attempt on a plant supplying radio wave scanners to Ukraine to Russia's GRU.
