Wexford man who died after triathlon in Turkey remembered as someone who 'travelled far and dreamed big'
"He loved sport, not just watching it but entering competitions and pushed his limits in Iron Man and triathlons. His dedication and drive is part of what made him who he was. He also had enormous pride in diving. He lived his life with adventure and travelled far and dreamed big. His final illness took place in Turkey where he didn't expect his journey to end,"
"For over 25 years he made his home in Wexford, where his kindness and work ethic touched so many. He never did anything halfway, whether it was his job or friendships - he gave all of himself,"
"taken from this world far too soon"
John Brett, originally from Tramore, Co Waterford, lived in Gorey for over 25 years with his wife Orna and maintained strong links to Nairobi where he worked at Bimeda. He suffered a medical emergency during the Iron Man 70.3 in Turkey and died. He was wholehearted, generous and passionate. He made his home in Wexford for over 25 years, showing kindness and a strong work ethic. He loved sport as both a spectator and competitor, pushed his limits in Iron Man events and triathlons, and took pride in diving. His funeral took place on November 17 in the Church of the Holy Cross, Tramore. Symbols at the altar included a fitness certificate, a basketball trophy, motor racing merchandise and diaries, and loved ones left messages remembering his supportive, adventurous spirit.
