Welsh steel firm wins 1.1m Ukraine bridge contract to support post-war reconstruction
"Winning this contract is a source of immense pride for our entire team. To know that our work will contribute to rebuilding critical infrastructure in Ukraine and help communities reconnect is deeply meaningful to all of us."
"Pro Steel's success highlights the strength and innovation of Welsh manufacturing. Their ability to meet demanding international standards and secure this contract through UK Export Finance shows the calibre of businesses we have here in Wales."
Pontypool-based Pro Steel Engineering has been awarded a £1.1 million contract by ONUR Group to manufacture 200 tonnes of steel girders for a bridge near Kyiv that was destroyed during the war. Production will take place in South Wales, with the girders transported to Ukraine for installation in the new year. The contract followed a 2.5-year competitive tender process and is the company’s first major project backed by UK Export Finance. The deal is expected to create two jobs. The firm employs 35 staff, generates around £17 million annually, and met stringent Ukrainian welding standards. Support from the Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme aided the company’s expansion and international competitiveness, and company leaders described the project as both emotionally significant and strategically important for Wales and the UK’s role in supporting Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.
