"We've made progress over the last five years including the blending of biofuels for our road vehicles, scaling up of solar farms and wind generation, home-energy upgrades, and EV rollout, but these figures highlight that we need to do a lot more, and fast, to reach our targets," she said."
"We simply cannot afford not to act"
Projected emissions from electricity for 2021–2025 total 40.8 MtCO2eq, exceeding the 40 MtCO2eq climate budget. Electricity emissions rose 0.2% in the first six months year-on-year. Residential natural gas emissions fell 9.1% due to warmer weather, higher prices, and retrofitting, with kerosene demand also dropping. Transport sector emissions are projected to reach 57.7 MtCO2eq for 2021–2025, 3.7 MtCO2eq above the ceiling. Progress includes blending biofuels, scaling up solar and wind, home-energy upgrades, and EV rollout. Renewable energy share lagged at 49.2% in the first half of the year.
