Mykhailo Fedorov, 34, will take over as Ukraine's defense minister after a parliamentary vote on the second attempt. The previous day's vote fell short. The president justified the appointment by stressing the need for maximum technological capability to preserve soldiers' lives if the war continues. Fedorov is the sixth defense minister appointed by the president and the youngest in Ukraine's history. He previously served as Minister for Digital Transformation and led digital reforms including e-government platforms Diia and Diia.City. He worked on the 2019 presidential campaign, built online communications and social media networks, and retained his ministerial post through several reshuffles. Denys Shmyhal became energy minister.
