Ukraine war briefing: Zelenskyy says nearly 60% of weapons are domestically made as role of drones increases
"During this war, Ukraine has reached the point where nearly 60% of the weapons we have, the weapons in the hands of our soldiers, are Ukrainian-made, the Ukrainian president said on Saturday in his nightly video address. And these are powerful weapons, with many advanced features. In his address, he also pointed to a joint project to undertake weapons production in Denmark."
"As Dan Sabbagh reports from the Pokrovsk sector, it is a war of drones now, with models for reconnaissance, rescue, interception and attack changing the way both sides operate. Russia launched an overnight drone attack on Kyiv, with falling debris from destroyed drones sparking a fire atop of a 16-storey residential building, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital city said on Sunday."
Nearly 60% of weapons in Ukraine’s military are domestically produced, exceeding an earlier target to surpass 50%. Many of these weapons are described as powerful and equipped with advanced features. A joint project will undertake weapons production in Denmark. In July the reshuffled government was instructed to boost domestic weapons production above 50%, the highest level since independence from Soviet rule in 1991. Ukraine has prioritized drone production and air defences to counter intensive Russian drone and missile attacks. Drone models for reconnaissance, rescue, interception and attack have changed operations on both sides. Recent Russian strikes caused civilian casualties and urban damage.
