Ukrainian troops continued a frontline counteroffensive around two eastern cities, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy saying heavy losses were inflicted on Russian forces and that the operation disrupted Russian plans to seize the logistics centre of Pokrovsk. Russia claimed capture of two villages while Ukraine reported halting attacks near Pokrovsk and holding positions around Kupiansk. Reuters said it could not independently verify both sides' claims, and the outgoing head of MI6 said Vladimir Putin has bitten off more than he can chew.
